rape and other songs

and cold in closed eyes    metallic

it stands    floating in flowers

cryptic

it tightens around the wrists

a frown          a sullen discomfort

it wraps her around me

i clip         her wings

she asks

for a drink

it strangles another dream          as I fondle

a nightmare

a child

it withers          as I exit

a fight     from inside

i say goodbye

  1. Both the words and the illustration exemplify that sense of both being there and not being there, an experience I’ve had many times. I suppose they could be interpreted in many ways but since the title “rape and other songs” could easily be the title of my own biography, it touches me deep in my heart.
